VANDERBILT. (1849 - 1920). Second son of William H. Vandebilt. William began his career in railroading at the age of nineteen in his grandfather's office ("Commodore" Vanderbilt), and was heavily involved in the family railroad empire. Also signed by Chauncey Depew as Trusteee. Punch cancelled and very fine.

Piscataqua Bridge
PISCATAQUA BRIDGE
Partly printed Manuscript Document Signed. December 7, 1793. 2pp. 6½” x 8 ½”. Signed by JAMES SHEAFE, and NATHANIEL ADAMS, as President, Treasurer and Proprietors Clerk, respectively. In a clean, bright presentation on watermarked ragpaper: the Subscription of the Town of Portsmouth as Proprietor of a Share in the Piscataqua Bridge; nice impressed “Seal of the Proprietors” that displaying an image of what the bridge would look like. At the time it was built, in 1794, the Piscataqua Bridge, built between Dover and Newington across the “Great Bay of the Piscataqua River”was an enormous engineering feat. Its builder, Timothy Palmer, had designed what was to be the longest span bridge in the world.

1927, Pennsylvania. Stock certificate for 100 shares. Green/Black. Center engraved vignette of the city of Pittsburgh flanked by smaller vignettes of a steam locomotive and a clipper ship. Issued to and signed on the verso by A. Felix du Pont (1879 - 1948), Vice president of E.I. duPont de Nemours & Co. A. Felix along with an aggressive Irenee teamed with Pierre S., Lammot, et al. to form a syndicate for the purchase of Thomas Coleman's company stock holdings. The ensuing court battle was eventually won by the young syndicate. Scotch tape residue at lower right, otherwise fine. Stamp and punch cancelled leaving Du Pont’s signature unaffected.
