Yellowstone National Park was founded by an Act of Congress on March 1, 1872 and was "dedicated and set apart as a public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of all people" and "for the preservation, from injury or spoilation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders…and their retention in their natural condition." Today, it remains as the first, oldest, and probably the most famous national park in the world national. Within its confines, the park boasts more geysers and hot springs than the rest of the world combined.
