Henry H. Houston Steamship & Railroad Magnate
1879, Northern Pacific Railway Stock certificate for 42 shares. Engraved vignette of a steam locomotive at top center, nice portrait vignette of Frederick Billings at bottom issued to and HENRY H. HOUSTON (1820-1895): American capitalist in canal and railroad transportation. Appointed 1850 as general freight agent of The Pennsylvania Railroad; held part ownership in about 20 steamers on the Lakes and 21 ocean vessels; operated in petroleum in the early days in gold and silver mines in the West. Among the corporations in which he was a director and stockholder were The Pennsylvania Railroad, The Pennsylvania Steel Co., The Inman Steamship Co., The International Navigation Co., The Pacific Mail Steamship Co., The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati & St. Louis Railroad, The Erie & Western Transportation Co., and The Cumberland Valley Railroad; plus others. Henry Morgenthau, Jr.
Henry Morgenthau, Jr. (1891 – 1967). U.S. Treasury Secretary under Franklin D. Roosevelt. He played a major role in developing the New Deal. He was instrumental in foreign relations with Chine and in Support of Jewish refugees. His is credited with putting forth The “Morgenthau Plan” which was designed to dismember and partition Germany following World War II.

Vignette at top center of a guard dog resting on a key with the words "Safety & Dispatch" printed below and a spread eagle on top as well as flanked by a railroad station scene and a shipping scene with bundles prepared for loading. Signed by James C. Fargo, secretary, Henry Wells, president and Alexander Holland as treasurer. HENRY WELLS(1806 - 1878). Expressman. JAMES C. FARGO (1829 - 1915). Expressman. Working along with his older brother, William, co-founder of the American Express Co., James became a prominent figure in the railroad and express industries.
