He had been a journalist for many years for New York City newspapers, including a stint as a war correspondent during the Civil War. He later published newspapers in Buffalo and Albany, New York and then became secretary to the board of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1869. Earlier he testified at the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson. Star punch cancellations at officers’ signatures. Very Fine.
