1885, Kentucky. Stock certificate for 10 shares of the Short Route Railway Transfer Company. Black. Vignette of train facing right at center. Signed by C. P. HUNTINGTON, as President. (1821 - 1900). One of the most important railroad builders in American history. Arriving in California as a successful New York merchant in 1849, Huntington soon began building the basis of what was to become one of the great American railway fortunes. In 1860, he was approached by Theodore Judah with a plan to build a railroad across the Sierra Nevada mountains as part of a trans-continental railroad project. The development of Judah's plan brought together the talents of Huntington, Leland Stanford, Charles Crocker and Mark Hopkins, the combination which came to be known as "The Big Four." This combination of successful California businessmen led to the eventual completion of the Central Pacific Railroad, culminating in its connection with the Union Pacific at Promontory Point, Utah in May of 1869. Punch cancellations affeting Huntington's signature which is still very legible. Fine.

1942, Berlin, Germany. Stock certificate. Brown/Tan. Vignette of bust of Werner von Siemens at top center and electormechanical equipment at bottom. The Siemens & Halske Telegraph Building Company was founded in 1847 by Werner Siemens and Johan Georg Halske, along with Siemens cousin, Johan Georg Siemens. It quickly became one of the most dynamic companies in the electrical industry and withing a few decades was one of the largest electro-mechanical companies on the globe, a position it still holds today. A superb certificate for display from this world class company. Uncancelled and in Excellent condition.
