Rockefeller of the prominent United States Rockefeller family. He was the son of William Avery Rockefeller, Sr. and Eliza (Davison) Rockefeller. 1876, Northern Pacific Railway Stock certificate for seven shares issued to and signed by Gen. Thomas W. Sherman. Attractive certificate with ornate border, vignette of a train passing by telegraph lines in the countryside and a lower vignette of Fredrick Billings. Signed on the accompanying stock scrip: "T.W. Sherman." GENERAL THOMAS W. SHERMAN: (1813-1879) Union brigadier general who helped capture Forts Beauregard and Walker in Port Royal Sound, S.C. 1861 and commanded Bank's left wing during the siege against Port Hudson in 1863. On May 27, 1863 while leading an attack upon the Confederate works he was wounded in the leg, losing the limb to amputation days later. At age 18 he walked almost 400 miles from home in order to speak with President Andrew Jackson about poor educational opportunities in Rhode Island. Jackson rewarded him for his effort by giving him an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point. Graduating from West Point in 1836, he fought in campaigns against Indians, and in the Mexican War. Punch hole cancellations, light browning just under Sherman's signature, which is bold and nicely executed. Very Fine.

The certificate is endorsed as executor of Stephen Clegg’s estate on verso by Hamilton Rowan, his son. Pillsbury & Co. and signed for the company by CHARLES A. PILLSBURY (1842-1899), American businessman, built the largest flour-milling company in the world in the lat 19th century. Charles A. Pillsbury was born to a farming family in New Hampshire. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1864, he spent several years in Montreal engaged in various business ventures. In 1869 he settled in Minneapolis and purchased an interest in a flour mill at the suggestion of his uncle John S. Pillsbury, a leading citizen of the town. In 1870 Charles Pillsbury, his uncle, and father formed a family partnership which became the nucleus of the Pillsbury milling empire. Punch and stamp cancelled. Extremely Fine.
